In a long tradition in the sport of professional baseball, whenever a rookie makes their debut and eventually hits their first homerun of their Major League career, the team usually plays a joke and gives the player the silent treatment when he returns to the dugout after rounding the bases.
Last night, after Ruf hit his first Major League homerun, he returned to the dugout to a fist bump from pitching coach Rich Dubee and then nothing. Silence. Nobody talking to him or responding to whatever he said. The thing that made this different, is that silent treatments usually last a matter of seconds. This one lasted until the end of the inning.
